Euro 2008 Part 2

The Italians have been robbed yet again by some really bad refereeing! Although I mentioned before that I don't quite fancy this current Italian squad, I found myself supporting them while watching the match last night. I would jump when they have a near chance and was cursing and swearing when Romania was awarded a penalty. Fate has it, Buffon made a terrific save and Italy is still in the competition. The refereeing was obvious Italian biased and a perfectly legitimate goal was disallowed.

No lack of drama in this match as Panucci stored an equaliser just a minute after Romania scored

Italy live to fight another day after that wonderful Buffon penalty save

Straits Times featured a really cute way of picking the Euro 2008 winner, thought I might want to share it here.

1. Only one of the last 9 winners have been a host nation - that counts out Austria and Switzerland

2. The last 8 winners had all qualified for past European Championship tournaments - that counts out Poland

3. The European Championship has never been retained - say goodbye to Greece

4. Germany are the only country to have bounced back from losing a Euro final to win next time round - unlucky, Portugal

5. No World Cup runners-up have bounced back to win the European Championship - so France are out

6. Only once have losing semi-finalists gone on to win the tournament next time round - that eliminates the Czech Republic and Holland

7. Spain may have one of the best squads but it has been 24 years since they last reached a tournament semi-final

8. On only one occasion have the reigning World Cup-holders won the European Championship - that counts out Italy

9. The last six winners (France, Holland, Denmark, Germany, France, Greece) all come from the first 8 letters of the alphabet - farewell Russia, Romania, Sweden and Turkey

10. Only one team who did not win their qualifying group have gone on to claim the trophy: Denmark 1992, took the place of Yugoslavia, who were banned owing to the Balkan crisis. So it's auf wiedersehen, Germany! That means that, despite not even winning a game at Euro 2004, the only nation left standing is... CROATIA!!

So far so good, Croatia are indeed impressing after beating hot favourites Germany. Worth a bet yeah.

Croatia!!!

Singapore is playing Saudi Arabia at National Stadium today for that chance to fulfil Goh Chok Tong's World Cup 2010 dream. Is it only me or are you all not updated to the latest news as well? Didn't they said that the National Stadium is closing and they even played a few "last" soccer matches there?
